The Island of Santorini


The island of Santorini is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. Not only does it have magnificent and stunning natural beauty, it is also rich with history. It is also in fact one of the most frequently visited destinations in Greece. Possessing plethora of stunning beauties, this island is formed from a volcano eruption.

Throughout the year, millions of visitors from all over the world visit this gorgeous island. Most people come to Santorini for vacation purposes, to relax, and just to have fun in general. Others do important things in this place, such as having their wedding. Its perfect setting makes it an ideal place for getting married. It has the typical blue and white scenes, something that is very common in Greece.

The island of Santorini is a member of the Cyclades islands. It located in the southernmost part of the Cyclades islands, and is about 117 km (73 miles) from the island of Crete.

International visitors will find it convenient to reach Santorini, as it is only 40 minutes away by plane from the Athens airport, Eleftherios Venizelos. If one prefers alternatives means of reaching Santorini, the Piraeus Port is an option. It takes approximately 7 to 9 hours to reach Crete from Piraeus by using ferry.

Some places to visit during your visit at Santorini:
  • Akrotiri: Also called the Pompeii of the Aegean, it has well preserved prehistorical sites. In it you will find beautiful ancient ruins.
  • Mesa Vouno: An ancient Santorinian city built on limestone rock.
  • Museum of Prehistoric Thera
  • The Archaeological Museum
  • The Megaron Gizi
  • Panagia Episkopi
  • Catholic Catedral
  • Agios Nikolaos Monastery


And not to mention, there are tons of beaches to visit in Santorini, some of which are Baxedes, Koloumbos, Pori, Monolithos, Kamari, Perissa, Vlychada, Red Beach, White Beach, and Mesa Pigadia.

You will be able to see three colours of the sand in Santorini, from the beautiful white sand, black sand, to the red sand.

Spend some time enjoying its natural beauties, and pamper yourself with the tasty Greek Frappe while watching the picturesque sea and mountains.
