The History of GreeceThe History of GreeceGreece has a history that dates back 5000 years. The Greeks, also known as the Hellenics, after occupying a large part of the Black Sea, created commercial pacts, exploring the outer world, from the Caucasus to the Atlantic and from Scandinavia to Ethiopia. Most of the Greek inhabitants occupy the Middle Sea, Asia Minor, Adriatic Sea, Black Sea, and the Northern African coast in an effort to explore commercialized areas. During the Calsic period (5th century B.C), Greece was comprised of many districts, small and large, in many internationalized (simple, federation, federal, confederation) and internal (kingdom, tyranny, constitutional democracy, etc) forms, with the most famous being Athens, followed by Sparta and Thebes. The vehement passion of the Greeks enabled them to conquer the Persians, the most dominating power during that time, in some of the most famous wars in the history of human being; Marathon, Termopylae, Salamis dan Plataea. In the second half of the 4th century B.C, many districts in Greece formed an alliance (The League of Corinth) which was led by Alexander The Great, who served as the president, as well as king of Macedonia. Alexander The Great declared war with the Persians, in an effort to free the Ionians. In year 146 B.C, The League of Corinth fell to the hand of the Romans. In year 330, the capital of the Roman district was built in a new area, the New Roman or Constantinople, named in respect to the king of the Romans at that time, The Great Constantine. After the Greek capital fell to the hand of the Turkish in year 1453, the Greeks were governed by the Ottoman empire for almost 400 years. During this period, the Greeks were able to maintain their language, religion, and their self identity was still strong. They also brought about many revolutions to gain back their freedom, eventhough they did not succeed. On March 25 1821, the Greeks once again rebelled against the Ottoman, and this time they succeeded and gained back their freedom. As a new country which was comprised only of small parts of their modern countries, the effort to free all the areas which were inhabitated by the Greeks continued. In year 1864, the Ionian islands were united with Greece, and in 1881 some parts of Epirus and Thessaly. Crete, the East Aegean Islands and Macedonia were also united with Greece in year 1913, and the West Thrace in year 1919. After the second world war, the Dodecanese island was also returned to Greece. Nowadays, Greece is a member of the European Union (since 1981) and adapts the Euro currency. Some facts about Greece:
